It isn’t easy being a real estate admin. Some days, you wind up buried under a mountain of paperwork. Others, you’re running errands and supporting the team. Keeping up with the chaos of a real estate office is a delicate dance, and if you want to be at the top of your game, then you need to own your role and be the best “you” that you can be.
But what does it mean to own your role? Can small changes in your attitude and the way you operate really make that much of a difference? In short: yes! We’ll show you how.
Step 1: Identify
First thing’s first: if you want to be an incredible, skilled, versatile real estate admin, then you need to believe that you are one! Yes… we’re prescribing the “fake it till you make it” method. Whenever you feel like you need a boost of confidence, remember that you were hired for a reason. You need to believe that you are as talented as your employers know you are!
For instance, imagine that you have an idea you’d like to share with your boss, but you’re struggling to find your voice. Instead of letting your nerves get the best of you and staying silent, remind yourself of all the other times you spoke up and succeeded. By reliving proud moments of your past, you can bring that same energy and decisiveness into your current role.
Step 2: Ask for Help
If there’s one thing that top-tier employees all have in common, it’s that they know when to ask for help. If you wind up taking on too much too fast, you might end up making significant mistakes that cost the business both time and money.
Be honest with your boss about what you believe you can reasonably accomplish. If you feel you need help, tell them, and offer an alternate solution (or two!) to the problem. For example, instead of saying, “I can’t do this,” say, “I can’t do this in the way/time you requested, but here’s another way that I think we could get the job done.”
Step 3: Seek Out Challenges
Through challenge comes growth. If you want to own your role, then it’s time to dive in headfirst! Instead of avoiding situations, tasks, or people that make you uncomfortable, lean into them. Not only that, but rather than focusing on any discomfort or awkwardness you might feel, home in on what you’re learning and how you can use these lessons in the future.
